Tetris is the latest video game to inspire a major Hollywood movie, but probably not in the way you think. The first trailer for Tetris is here and it shows Taron Egerton trying to outsmart the KGB in an attempt to secure the rights for the popular game and turn it into a worldwide sensation.

Apple TV’s official logline describes Tetris as “a Cold War–era thriller on steroids, with double-crossing villains, unlikely heroes, and a nail-biting race to the finish.” Even though it’s inspired by a popular game beloved by people of all ages, this film promises one wild ride and centers on the part of Tetris’ history that most people aren’t aware of.

Tetris focuses on Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton), who put everything he has on the line to travel to the Soviet Union during the late ’80s and join forces with the Tetris inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring his game to the masses.

In addition to Egerton and Efremov, Tetris also stars Toby Jones, Roger Allam, Anthony Boyle, Togo Igawa, Ken Yamamura, Ben Miles, and Matthew Marsh. It will have its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival next month before heading to Apple TV+ on March 31.
