Despite renewing A League of Their Own earlier this year, Amazon Prime Video won’t be going forward with Season 2 of this series. The streaming giant announced that the plans for the show’s second season have been scrapped amid the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, A League of Their Own centers on a World War II-era women’s baseball team Rockford Peaches. It focuses on a group of brand-new characters, pursuing their dream of playing professional baseball.

A League of Their Own was created for Amazon by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson, who also played one of the lead roles. The show’s ensemble also included Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Roberta Colindrez, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field, and Priscilla Delgado.

The first season of A League of Their Own was met with critical acclaim and it was named outstanding new TV series at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards. Amazon renewed it for the second and final four-episode season back in March, but those plans have been scrapped due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The strikes delayed several TV productions, forcing shows to miss their target release dates. In addition to A League of Their Own, Amazon also canceled the second season of The Peripheral for the same reason.
