The Lord of the Rings television series is following in the footsteps of the acclaimed trilogy.

Multiple outlets report that the series produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust will be shooting in New Zealand, just as the three films made by Peter Jackson were shot in there.

“We knew we needed to find somewhere majestic, with pristine coasts, forests, and mountains, that also is a home to world-class sets, studios, and highly skilled and experienced craftspeople and other staff,” said showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

“As we searched for the location in which we could bring to life the primordial beauty of the Second Age of Middle-earth, we knew we needed to find somewhere majestic, with pristine coasts, forests, and mountains,” they added.

The Lord of the Rings television series is said to be the most expensive ever made at an estimated cost of $1 billion.
