Amazon’s Sci-Fi Series “Lightyears” Casts Sissy Spacek and Ed O’Neill

Amazon has cast Sissy Spacek and Ed O’Neill as the leads in its upcoming sci-fi series Lightyears.

The series follows couple Irene (Spacek) and Franklin York (O’Neill) who find a chamber in their backyard which leads to a deserted planet. The couple has kept their secret since, but after a young man comes into their lives, the Yorks’ quiet life is disrupted and they find out that the chamber is much more than they ever imagined.

Spacey is best known for her film roles including 1981’s Coal Miner’s Daughter, which she won an Oscar for as well as Carrie, Missing, The River, Crimes of the Heart, and In the Bedroom. In recent years she’s ventured into TV roles including Homecoming, Castle Rock, and Bloodlines.

O’Neill has been a TV icon for decades including on his most recent sitcom Modern Family which concluded after 11 seasons last year. He’s also known for Married…With Children, and The West Wing. In regards to film, he starred in Finding Dory, the Wreck-It Ralph movies, and Spartan.

Lightyears is set to start filming later this year with Holden Miller as the writer and co-executive producer and Daniel C. Connolly serving as showrunner and executive producer. Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen will also serve as executive producers with Philip Martin directing.
