Bob Odenkirk got back into business with AMC after Better Call Saul came to a close, but their latest collaboration was short-lived. Odenkirk’s black comedy Lucky Hank has been axed after a single season after premiering on AMC earlier this spring.

Lucky Hank centered on Hank Devereaux, the chairman of an English department at an underfunded Pennsylvania college. He’s trying to navigate the chaos in his personal and professional life, while constantly walking the line between a midlife crisis and a full-blown meltdown.

Bob Odenkirk, best known as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, played the lead role in this series, developed for AMC by Paul Lieberstein and Aaron Zelman. Mireille Enos, Cedric Yarbrough, Diedrich Bader, Olivia Scott Welch, Sara Amini, and Suzanne Cryer joined him in supporting roles.

AMC Networks’ spokesman announced the show’s cancelation and said they’re proud of this “unique, playful and deeply human show” and the entire cast and crew that brought it to life.

“We are not able to proceed with a second season, but we are glad these eight episodes exist on AMC+ and will continue to find new fans – or be seen again by viewers who come back to spend more time with Hank, Lily, and the entertaining cast of characters at Railton College,” reads AMC’s statement.
