Starz‘s American Gods has been canceled.

The series which is based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name, won’t be coming back for a fourth season. But according to Variety, the network is open to a potential event series or movie.

The decision was made due to low viewership, declining 65% from the show’s first season to its third.

The show stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday. After the characters meet by chance following Shadow’s release from prison, Shadow agrees to become Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard and he becomes entwined in a world where magic is real and there is a war between the Old Gods and the New Gods.

Whittle responded to the news on Twitter thanking everyone involved in the show.

“This has been an amazing journey thus far and I am so grateful to my fellow cast and crew who have worked so hard on this award winning show. We have the best fans around the world and thank each of you for your passion and support, so know that Neil Gaiman, Fremantle myself and the cast are still committed to completing Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimed story,” he wrote.
