Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris filmed several amazing projects by each other’s side, and they’re gearing up for another collaboration. The duo’s next film The Invite already cast its lead, with Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, and Tessa Thompson closing the deals to star in this promising comedy.

The Invite is based on Cesc Gay’s Goya-winning 2020 Spanish film Sentimental, and it centers on Joe and Angela, who find themselves in a rut after 15 years of marriage. Their life turns upside down after they invite their boisterous neighbors Kayla and Shane over for cocktails and learn they’ve been hosting weekly parties that could spice up their marriage.

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris have filmed several acclaimed comedies by each other’s side, including Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks, and Battle of the Se-es. They’ve also collaborated with Rudd on the Netflix series Living with Yourself and recently directed episodes of Hulu’s Fleishman Is In Trouble.

Emmy nominee Rashida Jones and Academy Award winner Will McCormack wrote the script for The Invite, after previously working together on the indie rom-com Celeste & Jesse Forever. Permut Presentations and FilmNation Entertainment are developing the project together, and they’re planning to launch international sales at Cannes this month.
