Amy Winehouse has already been a subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary, but it seems we’ll soon be getting another captivating look at her tragic past. Late singer’s family just signed the deal to produce a biopic celebrating her extraordinary life and talent.

Amy’s relatives signed a multi-million pound deal with Monumental Pictures, hoping they’ll be able to bring her story to life. Oscar-nominated producer Alison Owen will make her directorial debut with this promising biopic, based on the script by Geoff Deane – the acclaimed writer behind Kinky Boots.

Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse explained they were previously approached by several production houses but decided to go with Monumental Pictures because they finally felt the time is right. He expressed hope that the true story of Amy’s illness will help everyone who’s going through something similar.

“With Alison and Debra we have found fantastic British producers who understand what Amy meant to people, alongside an illustrious history of bringing amazing female-driven stories to the big screen,” said Winehouse.

The biopic will start filming next year and all the proceeds will go towards Amy Winehouse Foundation and the upcoming hologram tour set for 2019.
