Filmgoers are set to learn about Amy Winehouse’s life before it went back to black.

A new movie is in the works which will chronicle the late artist’s rise to fame, as well as her tragic end. Studiocanal will be producing, while Matt Greenhalgh will pen the screenplay, and Sam Taylor-Johnson will sit in the director’s chair. The pair previously collaborated on a project about another famous musician—2009’s John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy.

Unlike 2015’s documentary, Amy, which won Best Documentary at the Oscars, Back to Black (named after the “Valerie” singer’s sophomore album) has received approval from the Winehouse estate.

Known for her deep voice and jazzy tracks, Winehouse was regarded by VH1 amongst their 100 Greatest Women in Music. The singer was raised in London in a Jewish home and came from a musical family with an interest in jazz. She was signed to Simon Fuller’s label at the age of 19 and released her debut album the following year.

Amy reached international success with her second album, Back to Black, which dropped in 2006. The album earned her five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, as well as Song of the Year and Record of the Year for the hit single “Rehab”.

Casting for Back to Black is currently underway.
