Steven Spielberg has just met a girl named Maria.

The Oscar-winning director is in the midst of production on his next project which will be a remake of the 1961 film and stage production, West Side Story.

The story of the warring gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, and the effect their rivalry has on a young couple who fall in love was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

The Fault in our Stars actor, Ansel Elgort, has been cast as lovestruck Tony in the 2019 film which is being directed by Spielberg and written by Angels in America playwright, Tony Kushner.

The female lead role has now been awarded to an unknown high schooler who answered a casting call for Maria.

Rachel Zegler submitted a video of herself singing Tonight and I Feel Pretty and is now set to make her acting debut!

“It’s official! So thankful to have the opportunity to work with one of my favourite directors and this incredible cast! And to be able to learn from the best (and one of my icons) @TheRitaMoreno is just BEYOND. Surreal!” the 17-year-old wrote on Twitter.

We pity any girl who isn’t her today!
