Four weddings, a funeral, and a tie to the past.

One of the most classic British comedies is being remade in an American context.

Four Weddings and a Funeral starred Hugh Grant who, along with his closest friends, is looking for love. The 20-something-year-old thinks he may have found it in Andie MacDowell who is American.

Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project is now recreating the story for Hulu in series form and plans to swap the nationalities of the leading cast.

Game of Thrones star, Nathalie Emmanuel, has been cast as the lead of the (now American) crew who venture to London for a wedding.

The rest of the cast includes Brandon Mychal Smith (You’re the Worst), Zoe Boyle (Frontier), Jennie Jacques (Vikings), Harish Patel (Run Fatboy Run), Guz Khan (Finding Fatima), Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project), and John Reynolds (Stranger Things).

In a connection to the original film, Kaling has now also brought MacDowell on board as a recurring character, playing one of the other’s mothers.

Production will begin next year.
