Showtime’s Talented Mr. Ripley got a new lead who seems perfect for the job. Andrew Scott, who proved his acting chops as the charismatic “Hot Priest” on Fleabag and as a kind of charming sociopath as Moriarty on Sherlock, will lead the new show titled Ripley.

The first season will have 8 episodes, all of them directed and written by Oscar-winner Steven Zaillian who will also serve as executive producer alongside Garrett Basch, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy, and Philipp Keel of Diogenes. Scott will serve as a producer on the series.

Ripley is yet another adaptation of the novel by Patricia Highsmith. It follows Tom Ripley, a small-time con-artist who is charged with bringing back a rich man’s son from Italy.

Showtime’s president of entertainment, Gary Levine, expressed his satisfaction with the additions to the show’s crew. “We are so thrilled to have the supremely talented filmmaker, Steve Zaillian, adapt the singular saga of Tom Ripley from Patricia Highsmith’s novels as an ongoing series for Showtime. With Andrew Scott, whose charisma knows no bounds, inhabiting the iconic lead role, we feel confident that this will be a special one.”
