Fox’s adaptation of Mouse Guard has found its leads.

Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster have been tapped to star in Mouse Guard based on the extremely popular comics created, penned and illustrated by David Petersen.

The feature, that will use similar technology employed in the Planet of the Apes films will be directed by Maze Runner’sWes Ball from a script written by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scribe Gary Whitta.

Fox started development on the movie in 2016, a decade after the Mouse Guard series was launched. Set in medieval times it follows “an order of mice who are the sworn protectors of their realm.” Serkis will portray the Gaurd’s villainous blacksmith, Midnight, and Brodie-Sangster will play Lieam, the Guard’s newest and youngest members, who is called upon to prove his bravery.

Matt Reeves is producing the feature via his 6th and Idaho production company alongside Ross Richie and Stephen Christy of Boom! Studios and Joe Hartwick Jr.

Production is scheduled to being in the spring.
