Angelina Jolie could be teaming up with Chloe Zhao on The Eternals.
The 43-year-old actress is in negotiations to make her Marvel debut. Should Jolie star in Marvel Studios’ The Eternals, it will be her first foray into the realm of superhero features.
Zhao was attached to the project back in September. She will direct from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Set to produce is Marvel’s Kevin Feige.
Little is known of the plot and Jolie’s character. The story of The Eternals was created by Jack Kirby in 1976. It tells the story of a group of superpowered and near-immortal beings known as Eternals, created the Celestials genetically experimented on humans. There’s also a villainous outcome to these experiments — the Deviants.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot includes a love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.
Zhao’s directing credits include The Rider and Songs My Brothers Taught Me.
Jolie is currently working on Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, a sequel to the 2014 Maleficent, which grosses $758 million worldwide. The sequel is slated to premiere October 18.
