After an extended hiatus from the big screen, Angelina Jolie is back in our lives. The famous actress and philanthropist just scored the lead role in upcoming revenge thriller The Kept. Jolie will also serve as a producer of this promising film, based on the 2014 novel by James Scott.

This frontier-revenge thriller centers on midwife Elspeth Howell, whose life is completely shattered after a trio of killers murders her husband and four sons. She finds the strength to keep on going after learning her 12-year-old son Caleb survived the attack. The duo ventures out into the unforgiving wilderness, searching for men who slaughtered their family.

Alice Birch, who penned the critically acclaimed Lady Macbeth, is in charge of writing the script. The Kept is still looking for a director, but some of the fans are hoping Jolie will pull a double duty with this one. She proved to be pretty skillful behind the camera, and her latest directorial effort First They Killed My Father is a case in point.

Jolie’s fans will probably have to wait a year or two before The Kept comes out, but she should be back on the big screen before that. She just wrapped work on Maleficent 2 and is ready to film another fairy tale adaptation – fantasy film Come Away, a mash-up of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.
