Many of our favorite actresses turned to directing in recent years and Anna Kendrick is the next one in line. The Pitch Perfect actress will make her feature directorial debut with the true crime thriller The Dating Game, in addition to producing it and playing one of the key roles.

Based on a Black List script by Ian MacAllister McDonald, The Dating Game draws inspiration from the true story of Cheryl Bradshaw, who took part in a popular TV matchmaking show that this film is named after. She was head over heels when she ran into handsome and funny bachelor Rodney Alcala, but she later came to learn he’s secretly a psychopathic serial killer.

Kendrick said that she’s thrilled to take the lead in this thriller, but she’s even more excited to come on board as the director of this promising project.

“I’ve loved this script from the moment I read it… I felt so connected to the story, the tone, and the themes around gender and intimacy, that when the opportunity came up to direct the film, I jumped at it. It feels meant to be,” the Oscar-nominated actress said in a statement.

Kendrick most recently played the lead role in the HBO Max original show Love Life, and we’ll soon get to see her in the thriller Alice, Darling.
