Anna Paquin has joined the cast of The Affair.

The fifth and final season of the Showtime drama set to debut in 2019 will feature a decades-decades-long time jump, which will see an adult version of Joanie Lockhart, the daughter of Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) portrayed by Paquin.

According to Variety, season 5 will see Joanie returns to Montauk to investigate the death of her mother. In season four, Alison’s death, which first looked like suicide, was later revealed to be murder committed by her boyfriend, Ben (Ramon Rodriguez).

Paquin took to Instagram to share the exciting news, writing, YAY!! I’m so EXCITED!!!”

The news of Paquin’s casting comes after it was reported earlier this week that Claes Bang has joined the show as Sasha Mann, Helen’s new love interest. Whether Jackson will return to the series’ final season to star alongside his on-screen wife, played by Catalina Sandino Moreno is still unknown. According to sources, if Jackson does come back for season five, “it would only be for one episode.”

The Affair returns in 2019.
