The cast of The Suicide Squad is shaping up rather nicely.

The supervillain film is the sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad which featured characters such as The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Deadshot.

Most of the original cast is returning for the new installment which is being helmed by Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn.

Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) are already confirmed to reprise their roles, with Joel Kinnaman now revealing on Instagram that his character, Rick Flag, is also returning to the squad.

It has already been reported that Deadshot will not feature in The Suicide Squad due to scheduling conflicts preventing Will Smith’s return.

While it was originally planned that Idris Elba would take over the role, the Turn Up Charlie actor will now be joining the franchise in his own capacity as a new character. John Cena is also onboard as a currently unnamed character.

Rumors have been rife, too, that Avengers: Infinity War star, Benicio del Toro, may be hopping over to the DC Universe and could possibly play one of the antagonists, The General.

The Suicide Squad opens on August 4th, 2021.
