Bob the Builder was one of the most popular children’s animated shows of the 2000s, and it’s finally coming to the big screen! Mattel is plotting an animated movie based on the popular series, with Anthony Ramos in the lead role.

In the Heights star Ramos will voice Robert aka Bob, a general contractor who travels to Puerto Rico for a major construction job. According to Mattel’s logline, this film will celebrate the vibrant and colorful textures of Puerto Ricco and their people, while showing Bob take on the issues affecting the island and digging deeper into what it means to build.

Ramos is also coming on board as one of the producers, and he’s looking forward to delivering an important message with this film “about friends working together, a celebration of a beautiful home they share, and how love can help to conquer any obstacle in your way.”

Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico of ShadowMachine are also producing, along with Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina of Nuyorican Productions. Felipe Vargas was tapped to write the script, while Mattell is still looking for a director.

Bob the Builder joins Mattel Films’ busy development lineup, which also includes films inspired by American Girl Dolls, Polly Pocket, and Barney.
