George Miller has given us one of the defining action movies of the 2010s with Mad Max: Fury Road, and its prequel is just around the corner. Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the first trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which chronicles the origin story of the formidable heroine Imperator Furiosa.

This prequel movie will center on the young Furiosa, who falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus after being snatched from her home, and here’s what it has in store, according to its official synopsis:

“Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

Charlize Theron originated this character in Mad Max: Fury Road, and she’ll be replaced by Anya Taylor-Joy in this high-profile prequel. Chris Hemsworth will join her as Warlord Dementus, while the supporting cast includes Alyla Browne, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme.

George Miller is returning as a director, and he co-wrote the script alongside Nico Lathouris. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released by Warner Bros. on May 24, 2024.
