The second season of The Mosquito Coast recently ended its run on Apple TV+ and it will serve as the show’s final chapter. The streamer announced the cancelation of this drama series led by Justin Theroux after two seasons.

The Mosquito Coast is based on Paul Theroux’s book of the same name and it was previously adapted into the 1986 film starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and River Phoenix. It centers on a radical idealist and brilliant inventor Allie Fox, who uproots his family to Latin America while on the run from the US government.

In addition to Justin Theroux, the series also stars Melissa George, Logan Polish, Gabriel Bateman, Ian Hart, Ariyon Bakare, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, and Daniel Raymont. Neil Cross and Tom Bissell developed the series for Apple TV+,

Before Apple TV+ announced the show’s cancelation, the book’s author Paul Theroux expressed his hope that the show would come back for the third season, adding “it would segue into the book itself” if brought back.

“As the author of the book, I’m fascinated by what they’ve made of it… They’ve done such a great job writing and directing, and the acting is terrific. I’m hoping that it goes into a third season just to round it off,” he told Deadline.
