Octavia Spencer solved many mysteries as podcaster Poppy Parnell on Truth Be Told, but she’s ready to take a break. The third season of this crime drama ended its run on Apple TV+ back in March, and it will serve as the show’s final chapter.
Spencer confirmed the show’s cancelation on social media saying that “Poppy Scoville is going on a much-needed vacation” after three seasons of seeking truth and justice. She thanked her partners at Orit Entertainment, Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment, Fifth Season, and Apple for supporting this series over the course of the past three seasons.
Matt Chernis, head of programming for Apple TV+, said it’s been a privilege to work with this team of creatives and added he’s looking forward to finding their next project together.
“This show has given us the opportunity to not only witness Octavia’s mesmerizing and nuanced portrayal of crime-solving podcaster Poppy Scoville, but to explore so many powerful and timely themes set against the backdrop of a captivating family drama,” said Cherniss in a statement.
Truth Be Told premiered on Apple TV+ in 2019, and it centered on podcaster Poppy Scoville, who risked it all to solve a different crime every season. In addition to Spencer, this series also starred Lizzy Caplan, Aaron Paul, Elizabeth Perkins, Michael Beach, Mekhi Phifer, Merle Dandridge, Tracie Thoms, and Haneefah Wood.
