Ariana Grande is no stranger to paying homage to her favorite movies in her music videos, and she did it again! The release of her new album Eternal Sunshine was accompanied by the music video for “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, which pays homage to the Jim Carrey rom-com that inspired it.

Grande’s new album was named after Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and she celebrated her love for this film in her latest music video. The Christian Breslauer-directed visual opens with Grande’s character Paches undergoing the procedure to erase her ex-boyfriend (Evan Peters) from her mind and relieve all the great memories they’ve shared.

Grande took to social media to express gratitude to both Peters and Breslauer for making this video a labor of love. She thanked them “for creating such a safe space, for holding [her] hand, and for thoughtfully bringing this entire album to life with this one video.”

“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” serves as the second single from Grande’s new seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine, released on March 8 via Republic Records. She teased its release with the lead single “Yes, And?”, which hit the shelves in early January and became her sixth song to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
