Most people only know Ashanti as a singer, but she’s starred in numerous movies and TV shows over the years, and she’ll soon add another to her filmography. She landed one of the lead roles in the romantic comedy The Plus One.
According to Deadline, Ashanti will play Lizzie, who asks her “male of honor” Marshall not to bring his explosive ex Marie to her destination wedding. Instead of following her request, he ends up inviting Marie as his plus one, and she’s determined to ruin Lizzie’s big day.
The director and the rest of the cast are yet to be revealed, but they’ll most likely be announced pretty soon because The Plus One will start filming this December in Florida. In addition to playing the lead role, Ashanti will also serve as one of the producers.
Ashanti will soon star in the musical comedy Honey Girls, and she had experience with acting long before these two projects rolled around. Her acting credits also include such movies as Coach Carter, John Tucker Must Die, and Resident Evil: Extinction.
