Whitney Houston is the latest in the long list of music superstars to get her own biopic, and its cast is shaping up to be amazing. Ashton Sanders is set to play Bobby Brown in this promising musical biopic, being developed under the working title I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
Sanders will be in pretty good company on the set of this movie because the leading lady had already been chosen. Naomi Ackie, whose recent credits include Master of None and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, had been cast in the role of the legendary R&B singer.
I Wanna Dance with Somebody will “take audiences on an emotional, energetic journey through Houston’s career and music”, and it’s based on Anthony McCarten’s script. Kasi Lemmons, who also directed the Harriet Tubman biopic starring Cynthia Erivo, will sit in the director’s chair.
Ashton Sanders is best known for his breakout role as teenage Chiron in the Academy Award-winning drama Moonlight. Following the success of this movie, he went on to star in The Equalizer 2, Native Son, All Day and a Night, and Judas and the Black Messiah.
