The Black Reel Television Awards are coming back to celebrate Black excellence in the TV industry this summer, and we know who’ll be in the running for top prizes. The list of nominations is in, and Atlanta is leading the way with 11 nods, followed by Abbott Elementary with nine.

Both shows have been nominated for the outstanding comedy series, together with Insecure, South Side, and Black-ish. The list of contenders for the outstanding drama series is just as impressive and it includes Bel-Air, Euphoria, Lupin, This is Us, and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

Atlanta owes most of its nominations to its amazing cast, including Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz. It also received nominations in directing and writing categories for two separate episodes.

Black Reel Awards founder Tim Gordon described the past year as “a big transitional year for Black television” because it marked the ending of many beloved shows and introduced us to new ones.

“With the conclusion of perennial Black Reel favorites like This Is Us, Insecure and Black-ish and more, it is wonderful to see that there are so many new shows, new stories, and outlets willing to add these refreshing and new stories to their programming,” said Gordon in a statement.
