]]>Jesse Williams has been cast to star opposite the previously announced series leads Aubrey Plaza and Ramón Rodríguez in the drama. Olga Dies Dreaming which was ordered to pilot at the streamer back in April is based on the yet-to-be-released novel of the same name by Xóchitl Gonzalez.
The drama centers on a Nuyorican brother and sister (Rodriguez and Plaza) from a gentrifying Sunset Park, Brooklyn, reckoning with their absent, politically radical mother and their glittering careers among New York City’s elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Variety reports that Williams will play Matteo Jones, a collector of music, objects, trivia, and mainly, of opinions. He would come across as a know it all if, in fact, he wasn’t so genuinely curious about everything. Matteo is keenly aware of people’s inclination to put everyone and everything into neat little boxes and he firmly refuses to conform.
Olga Dies Dreaming will be Williams first TV project since he derpated Grey’s Anatomy.

]]>Multiple outlets confirm that Batwoman has tapped Regan to play Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy, for the series’ upcoming third season. She will star opposite lead Javicia Leslie.
Regan’s Poison Ivy is a former botany student of Gotham University described as a passionate, brilliant scientist with a mind for changing the world for the better. But everything changes when she was experimented on by a colleague, injected with various plant toxins which turned her into the infamous villain. With a formidable power coursing through her veins, Pamela used her powers to do what she thought was right, even if Batman and those closest to her disagreed with her dangerous methods. Now effectively wiped off the board for years, Batwoman and the Bat Team must prepare themselves for Poison Ivy to return with a vengeance.
Regan joins newcomers Nick Creegan and Victoria Caragena, who will appear as Marquis Jet and Renee Montoya, respectively as well as returning stars Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, and Camrus Johnson.

]]>Players is set to tackle the world of E-sports, following a fictional pro-League of Legends team who pursue a championship after years of heartache.
Just like American Scandal, Players will be filmed in documentary style, following a fictional pro League of Legends team or LoL, looking to win its first championship after years of close calls and disappointment. According to Entertainment Weekly, the team’s 17-year-old rookie prodigy and 27-year-old veteran gamer will have to put aside their egos in order to work together if they have any hope of winning it all.
Players has scored a series order at Paramount+. CBS Studios and Funny or Die, which teamed on American Vandal, will also produce Players. League of Legends maker Riot Games is also involved in the project. Yacenda and Perrault will serve as executive producers on the series along with Joe Farrell and Mike Farah of Funny or Die.

]]>News of Ed Asner’s death was confirmed by his publicist. He passed peacefully on Sunday surrounded by family. Later a tweet on Asner’s official account read: “We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head — Goodnight dad. We love you.”
Born in 1929, Asner made his TV debut in 1957. He is best known for his role as Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He also voiced the lead character in Pixar’s Oscar-winning movie Up and his most recent credits include roles on Netflix’s Cobra Kai, Grace and Frankie and Dead to Me.
According to Deadline, Asner is the most awarded male performer in Emmy history with seven wins as well as being a recipient of the 2001’s Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
Hollywood has flooded social media with touching tributes to the actor. Mia Farrow wrote: “To know Ed, even a little, was a privilege. You could not find a more honorable person. He will be missed. Love to his wonderful family.” Michael McKean added, “Ed Asner was a fine man and a great actor. He was tough in the ways that count and suffered no fools. I acted with him just once and knew how lucky I was to do so. A hero. Rest in peace, Ed.”

Replica, which is due to start filming in Los Angeles this month, was penned by Paul Tully, who also helms the movie. Set to produce are Rose, Jaime Zevallos, Brian Metcalf, Freddy Giorlando, and Ryan Olson, with Micaiah Robnett serving as executive producer.
According to Deadline, which was first to report the news, the film will follow Tonya (Grey), “an African American trans woman who has journeyed cross-country from her small Mississippi hometown to California in pursuit of her dream to be an actress.” While traveling, she somehow finds herself stranded in the suburbs of LA, where she gets involved with some dogy people after meeting Mickey (Luke), a low-level meth dealer.

]]>Ladies and gentlemen, or shall we say—lords and ladies, the Downton sequel has a name: Downton Abbey: A New Era.
The title was revealed in new footage that was unveiled during Universal’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Wednesday night. The teaser also confirmed the film’s release date: March 18, 2022.
The teaser footage gave audiences a glimpse of the Crawley family and the Downton staff getting ready for a journey overseas but also hinted at a wedding!
Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Charmichael, and Jim Carter have all returned for A New Era, with new additions to the cast include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West. Julian Fellowes has also returned penning the screenplay for the movie.
The first film was a total hit grossing $97 million in the domestic box office and $237.9 million worldwide.

]]>The UK sci-fi series has been canceled and will not be coming back for a second season.
News of the cancellation has been confirmed by Gabriel Silver, the network’s Director of Commissioning for Drama. Silver said at the Edinburgh TV festival that the company had been “disappointed with audience figures” for the show.
According to Sky, the series, penned by showrunner Julie Gearey “tells the story of a fearless young cop and galactic pilot, Ash Harper (Savannah Steyn), who has her glittering career ripped away from her after being wrongly convicted of a treasonous crime and exiled to a distant prison colony.”
The series first premiered on 30 April 2021 to mixed reviews.
The series also starred Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Eleanor Tomlinson, Thomas Turgoose, Natasha O’Keeffe, Oliver Coopersmith, Imogen Daines, alongside new comer Diany Samba-Bandza, Parminder Nagra, and Craig Parkinson.

The Grammy-winning performer wore the stunning Yellow diamond on a long chain adorned with more than 100 carats of diamonds, previously worn by only three other people including Audrey Hepburn.
But that’s not all! Queen Bey also donned a host of other luxury jewels including a 22-carat cushion-cut yellow diamond ring.
“Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the epitome of the modern love story,” Alexandre Arnault, executive vice president of product and communications, said in a release. “As a brand that has always stood for love, strength, and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values. ]]>While it’s true that moviegoing is not quite back to normal, the domestic box office held quite well over the weekend. Disney/20th Century Studios’ Free Guy is still at the top of the charts grossing $18.8 million over its sophomore weekend for a 10-day total of $58.8 million.
Free Guy fared much better over its second weekend in theaters compared to other films that opened this summer including The Suicide Squad, Black Widow, and F9: The Fast Saga, all of which declined around 70% in their second weekend.
The Ryan Reynolds action comedy remained victorious over the two new films that opened this weekend—Paw Patrol and Reminiscence.
If you needed further evidence that this is an August like no other on the big screen, it’s the animated movie based on the popular kids’ TV show Paw Patrol that came ahead of the Hugh Jackman starring romance noir movie. The kid flick exceeded its single-digit expectations grossing $13 million at 3,184 theaters nationwide.
Paw Patrol was well received by its targeted audiences but also by parents and even critics!
“These movies are not in the league with the Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, Illumination juggernauts, but they cost less, make money, and occasionally break out à la Alvin and the Chipmunks, Mr. Peabody & Sherman and Scooby-Doo,” said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

]]>The death of the Rock ’n’ Roll star was confirmed by a family spokesperson to the Los Angeles Times. He died on Saturday at his home in Nashville. The rep did not disclose the cause.
Don, together with his bother Phil, was part of the 1950s and 1960s hit duo the Everly Brothers. The duo’s best known hits include “Bye Bye Love” and “All I Have To Do Is Dream.” Their pair’s famed harmonies are recognized by all and have influenced groups like The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.
“It’s almost like we could read each other’s minds when we sang,” Don Everly told The Los Angeles Times shortly after his brother’s death.
Don and Phil has a public breakup in 1973 that was followed by a 10-year estrangement, but their relationship was stronger than that. During their time apart, both pursued solo careers with limited success.
Between 1957 and 1962, the duo had 15 U.S. top 10 hits. They were elected to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and were given a lifetime achievement award at the 1997 Grammys.
