Ava DuVernay has teamed up with the streaming service on a Prince documentary.

According to Variety, the project has the full cooperation of the iconic singer’s estate. What this means is that DuVernay will have access to exclusive and never-before-seen materials including archival footage, photos, and interviews for her portrayal of the artist’s life.

“Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” the filmmaker told Deadline. “He was like no other. He shattered every preconceived notion, smashed every boundary, shared everything in his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.”

This documentary isn’t DuVernay’s first musical feature. She made her big-screen debut in 2008 with This Is the Life, which chronicled the alternative hip-hop scene in Los Angeles in the 1990s.

DuVernay is also working on another project for Netflix about the five Harlem teens who were incorrectly convicted for the 1989 brutal rape of a jogger in the NYC park. The four-part-drama about is set to launch on Netflix next year.
