The sequel to Avatar has been over a decade in the making and we won’t have to wait for it much longer. The highly-anticipated follow-up to this record-breaking blockbuster is coming to theaters this year and its title has finally been availed at CinemaCon.

James Cameron’s new movie will be titled Avatar: The Way of Water and it’s only the first in a series of sequels coming our way. Avatar 3 started filming simultaneously in New Zealand and 20th Century Studios already gave two more movies a green light.

Producer Jon Landau attended the Disney presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas and revealed what we can expect from the upcoming movies in this franchise.

“At the center of each of the four sequels will be the Sully family. Each story will be a stand-alone and each will come to its own conclusion. [There will be a] fulfilling resolution to each film, but when looked at as a whole the journey across all four will create a larger epic saga,” said Landau.

An exclusive trailer was also played during the presentation and it’s expected to play in cinemas with Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before going online. Avatar: The Way of Water will premiere on December 16 and its cast will include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, and Sigourney Weaver.
