It’s been over a decade since James Cameron gave us his sci-fi epic Avatar, and this movie is still breaking records. After losing the title of highest-grossing film in history to Avengers: Endgame, the beloved film once again reclaimed it thanks to its reissue in China.

Avatar’s China reissue kicked off on Friday and added $12.3 million to the movie’s box office earnings in just two days, making it the highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office.

Jon Landau, who produced the movie alongside James Cameron, thanked the fans in China for supporting the movie and said they’re looking forward to sharing the follow-ups of this epic story.

“We are proud to reach this great milestone, but Jim and I are most thrilled that the film is back in theaters during these unprecedented times, and we want to thank our Chinese fans for their support,” said Landau in a statement.

James Cameron previously discussed the reissue with China.org and stated that he believes that Avatar is still relevant today because it tackles important issues we face, including deforestation and climate change. Two Avatar sequels are currently in post-production, set to come out in 2022 and 2024, with an additional two on the way.
