Avatar held the title of the highest-grossing movie in history for almost a decade, but its reign is finally over. Marvel’s crossover hit Avengers: Endgame recently broke its record and went on to become the biggest box office hit of all time.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige couldn’t wait to share the news with their fans during a star-studded panel at the Comic-Con in San Diego. Avengers: Endgame set its latest box office record by earning $2.79 billion since its premiere on April 26th.

Co-chairman and chief creative officer of the Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn, congratulated Marvel Studios and thanked fans around the world for bringing Avengers: Endgame to these historic heights.

Both Feige and Horn acknowledged the importance of James Cameron’s Avatar and the way it impacted film art in the years to come. Horn said that both of these movies serve as “ongoing proof of the power of movies to move people and bring them together in a shared experience”.
