After its release, Avengers: Infinity War has nearly broken the all-time box office record in China.
The latest Marvel feature earned over $200 million on its opening weekend. This makes the movie the second-highest grossing debut in China.
Two weeks ago, Infinity War opened with $257 million in North America. The China debut ranks the movie as the sixth-largest single territory opening of all time, on par with Marvel’s last feature Black Panther‘s debut in North America.
Infinity War blew its rivals out the water and beat Monster Hunt 2 to highest-opening score this year. The Chinese adventure film opened with $188 million. The Marvel movie was beaten only by The Fate of the Furious which reportedly earned RMB 1.352 billion compared with RMB 1.266 million for Infinity War.
The feature is now officially the highest earning Marvel movie of all time. It has topped $1.606 billion worldwide in just 19 days and it doesn’t seem implausible that it will reach $2 billion. Only time will tell.
