Universal Pictures is currently plotting a monster movie Renfield, starring Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage, and it seems they’re going to be in good company. Awkwafina is the latest cast member to join this project centered on Dracula’s henchman.

Renfield draws inspiration from the original Dracula novel and centers on R.M. Renfield—an inmate at a lunatic asylum believed to be suffering from delusions, who actually turns out to be a servant of Dracula. According to Deadline, this project will take place during the present day and it won’t be a period piece.

Hoult is set to play the titular role, while Cage will join him as Dracula. Awkwafina’s role in this monster movie remains a mystery at this point. Chris McKay, best known for his work on The Tomorrow War, will be in charge of directing the film. Ryan Ridley wrote the script, drawing inspiration from an original story outline from Robert Kirkman.

Awkwafina has been on a roll since the beginning of 2021. She joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and voiced one of the main characters in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon. We’ll soon get to see her in the Apple TV+ movie Swan Song, alongside Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris.
