This year’s SXSW Film Festival brought many exciting new films our way, but none of them created more buzz than Bottoms. The first trailer for this teen comedy is here, and it shows Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri starting an interesting “fight club” in their high school.

Bottoms centers on two unpopular queer girls who came up with an elaborate plot to make their senior year memorable. The duo starts their own kind of “fight club” in an attempt to get the attention of cheerleaders before graduation…and even hook up with some of them.

In addition to the leading duo, Bottoms also stars Havana Rose Liu, Kaia Gerber, Nicholas Galitzine, Dagmara Domińczyk, and Marshawn Lynch. Sennott co-wrote the script alongside Emma Seligman, who also directed the film, while Elizabeth Banks produced it under her Brownstone Productions banner.

Following its premiere at the SXSW this spring, Bottoms drew comparisons to such raunchy movies like American Pie and Superbad, but Sennott promises this queer comedy is a different beast.

“The characters in the movie use feminism to their advantage. But we didn’t just want to copy another movie that’s already great and just put girls in it. We wanted to update it and make it personal to ourselves,” she told Variety.

Bottoms will get a limited theatrical release on August 25 before going wide on September 1.
