Fans lost it after Barbie Ferreira announced she was leaving Euphoria after two seasons, despite being one of the show’s key cast members. Months after saying goodbye to her character Kat Hernandez, Ferreira opened up about her exit and revealed the real reason behind it.

Ferreira recently set down with Dax Shepherd on his Armchair Expert podcast, and one of the things that came up was her time on Euphoria. She told Shepherd that she felt “there were places” where Kate could have gone, but not on this show.

“I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either. I would have played her for as long as I was asked to,” said Ferreira.

Kat Hernandez emerged as one of the fan-favorite characters in Season 1 of Euphoria, but viewers often felt she was sidelined in Season 2. Rumors about on-set tension between Ferreira and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson led fans to believe this was a reason for her reduced role, but the actress put them to rest.

She told Shepherd it was a struggle to find a continuation of Kat’s story in Season 2, and there were times she felt like she overstayed her welcome. In regards to Levinson, she said he writes “things that he relates to”, and she doesn’t think he necessarily related to Kat.
