Absence makes the heart grow fonder – unless there needn’t be absence to begin with.

Actress and singer, Barbra Streisand, may not be the first person to lose a beloved pet, but she may be one of the only people to clone one.

Streisand’s darling dog, Samantha, passed away in May 2017 after spending 14 years with the songstress’s family. But, the two-time Oscar-award winner did not bid her Coton de Tuléar farewell before extracting cells from the pup’s mouth and stomach in order to clone her — twice.

The world’s first cloned dog was created in 2005 by South Korean researchers who went through more than 1,000 eggs during their 3 year trial. Their experiment now means that you can clone your own dog for $50,000 through companies such as ViaGen Pets which is based in Texas.

Samantha’s spawn arrived late last year, with Barbra telling Variety that the new canines, Miss Scarlet and Miss Violet, have different personalities.

She also told the magazine that she is waiting to see whether the pair have Samantha’s dark brown eyes and serious nature when they are older.

We guess it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
