Batwoman is Coming to Save The CW

CW is putting out a Bat Signal — but not for Bruce Wayne.

The network is developing a series about Batwoman which will form part of its DC Universe that already includes Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Black Lightning, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Batwoman’s alter-ego, Kate Kane, is set to be written as a lesbian, with a casting notice scheduled to be issued soon.

The series has officially been described as follows:

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope. Based on the characters from DC.”

Caroline Dries of The Vampire Diaries and Greg Berlanti who produces The CW’s other bouquet of superhero shows will serve as executive producers.

Gotham better watch out.
