Hulu gave us one of the most talked-about celebrity documentaries in recent memory with Framing Britney Spears, and other media outlets are now trying to do the same. BBC recently announced they’re plotting their own documentary about the Princess of Pop.

According to BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar, who’s developing the documentary under the working title Britney, this project will tap into the energy of #FreeBritney movement and examine the industry, fandom, and legal system that put the singer in her current position.

“I went to L.A. in search of the truth of how Britney Spears, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, ended up in a conservatorship. I found myself in a world of lawyers, superfans, and paparazzi and spent time with many of the people who’ve had a front-row seat in Britney’s life,” said Azhar in a statement.

BBC’s documentary will take a look back at Spears’s rise to stardom, but it will mostly focus on her conservatorship and the uproar that surrounds it. The project still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s expected to initially premiere on BBC Two.
