Bette Midler Joins Ryan Murphy’s “The Politician”

Ryan Muphy’s first series on Netflix adds to its cast. 

The announcement that Bette Midler and Judith Light have joined the forthcoming dark comedy was made by the series creator himself during the Pose panel at the PaleyFest. Murphy also revealed that Pose writer and helmer, Janet Mock, will direct an episode. 

He concluded his on-strage announcement with “That’s my diva update.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series follows a wealthy student, who has known since age 7 that he’s going to be the president of the United States. But first, he’ll have to navigate the treacherous political landscape of high school and get elected student body president.

Playing the student is Ben Platt. Also starring are Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones and Benjamin Barrett.

The Politician will debut September 27 on Netflix.
