Abbott Elementary came top of the class when the television nominations for the 2023 Critics Choice Awards were announced on Tuesday morning.

The annual awards celebrate both TV and film, with nominees for the latter due to be revealed on December 14.

Ted Lasso dominated the comedy section of the television category last year, but that honor has now been bestowed on Abbott Elementary which picked up six nominations. The mockumentary received nods for Best Comedy Series, Best Actress in a Comedy Series for creator and star Quinta Brunson, Best Supporting Actor nominations for both Chris Perfetti and Tyler James Williams, and the same in the Best Supporting Actress category for Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Better Call Saul has the best chance in the drama category with five nominations, including Best Drama Series and Best Actor for Bob Odenkirk.

There were also two posthumous nominations among the batch: Leslie Jordan for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Call Me Kat, and Ray Liotta for Best Supporting Actor in the limited series Black Bird.

The 28th annual Critics Choice Awards are scheduled to be held on January 15, 2023.
