Sony Pictures is working on a new adaptation of the classic sitcom Bewitched, starring Elizabeth Montgomery.

Bewitched, created by Sol Saks under executive producer Harry Ackerman, ran for eight seasons from 1964 to 1972. Montgomery played Samantha Stephens, a witch married to an ordinary man named Darrin (Dick York and later Dick Sargent), who lives a typical life as a suburban housewife, but sometimes her powers get in the way.

The film comes from producers John Davis and John Fox (Dolemite Is My Name, Game Night) with a script by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (12 Monkeys, MacGyver).

This won’t be Sony’s first film adaptation of the series. The studio released 2005’s Bewitched, a romantic-comedy from writer-director Nora Ephron, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell.

Bewitched has been an icon of the sitcom genre since its finale and was most recently referenced in Marvel Disney Plus’ WandaVision, which used aspects of the show during its early episodes.
