All hell broke loose when Beyoncé announced the release of her new album Renaissance last week – and that was just the start. Queen B dropped the lead single “Break My Soul” last night – her first single from a solo album in six years – and it was definitely worth waiting for.

“Break My Soul” was supposed to drop at midnight ET, but Beyoncé surprised her fans by releasing it two hours earlier on Jay-Z’s streaming platform Tidal. This single marks a new era for Queen B and it has a strong house vibe that makes it a perfect dancefloor bop.

“Break My Soul” prominently samples Robin S.’ house-pop single “Show Me Love” from 1993 and Big Freedia’s 2014 bounce song “Explode” – and she couldn’t be happier about it.

“It feels surreal to be on the track with the Queen Beyoncé. Once again I’m so honored to be apart of this special moment. I’m forever grateful lord,” tweeted Big Freedia, whose voice was previously featured in Beyoncé’s hit single “Formation”.

“Break My Soul” will serve as the lead single on Queen B’s upcoming seventh studio album Renaissance. It will hit the shelves on July 29, and Variety’s report suggests it will be a multi-part album featuring dance and country tunes.
