One of The Big Bang Theory directors has said that characters may return in future spin-offs.

Director Mark Cendrowski has suggested that Young Sheldon is not the only spin-off on the cards. In addition to the Sheldon Cooper prequel, the directors have spoken about the possibility of the characters returning for a “continuation” of the original series.

“If in five years Chuck Lorre [The Big Bang Theory creator) decided to bring back some characters and try something again, I would love to be involved. It would be just a continuation,” he told Forbes. “There’s plenty to explore with their lives and characters moving forward. That said, it would have to be its own show with its own reason for being.”

Cendrowski also said that the “continuation” would likely happen a few years down the line rather than in the near future.

“I think the idea of letting things percolate a little, and you don’t want to cash in,” he explained. “That doesn’t mean that won’t happen and, in a couple of years, maybe it’s a character or a couple of characters that catch up within a couple of years. Who knows if it will happen.”

In the meantime, season three of Young Sheldon will air on CBS September 26.
