Big Sean is no stranger to topping the Billboard 200 chart, and he’s done it once again this week! He hit no. 1 with his latest album Detroit 2, de-crowning Taylor Swift after six weeks on top.

Big Sean’s latest LP is the spiritual successor of his 2012 mixtape Detroit, and it hit the shelves on September 4th. It became the rapper’s third album to top the Billboard 200 chart, following Dark Sky Paradise and I Decided, after selling 103,000 album-equivalent units during its first week.

To make the whole thing even more impressive, Big Sean’s new record managed to de-crown Taylor Swift’s Folklore after six weeks atop the chart. The latest albums by Katy Perry, The Killers, and Metallica failed to do so, so how did he succeed where they all failed?

Hip-hop has been having a moment on the Billboard Hot 200 chart this year, with Juice Wrld, Lil Baby, and Roddy Ricch ruling the chart for several weeks each. It also didn’t hurt Big Sean’s case that his latest album features some of the most prominent rappers on the scene, including Eminem, Travis Scott, and the late Nipsey Hussle.
