We had to wait 27 years for the next Bill & Ted movie, but it’s finally here. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter confirmed Tuesday that they will return as “Ted” Theodore Logan and “Bill” S. Preston Esq for the third installment in the series titled Bill & Ted Face the Music.
Creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, will once again pen the script while Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is set to direct. The movie is currently in pre-production, with no release date being announced.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again,” said Reeves and Winter in a joint statement. “Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”
According to the synopsis, the upcoming movie will introduce middle-aged Bill and Ted who are occupied with the responsibilities of having a family and are yet to fulfill their destiny of becoming rock stars. Everything will change when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. The duo decides to set out on a time travel adventure once again, trying to find the song that will save humanity. On their quest, Bill and Ted will get help from their daughters, historical figures, and several sympathetic music legends.
The first Bill & Ted movie, titled Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, was released in 1989 and became a commercial success while receiving positive reviews from the critics. The sequel, titled Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, was released in 1991 but it failed to repeat the success of the original. Both movies gained a cult following since then.
