Kelly Clarkson spoke to the parent in everyone on Sunday night as she hosted the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.

The event was a slightly somber affair in light of the recent shooting at Texas’s Santa Fe High School in which 10 people were killed. “Once again we’re grieving for more kids that have died… I’m so sick of moments of silences… it’s not working. Mommies and daddies should be able to send their kids to school,” said the mother of four.

Shawn Mendes and DJ Khaled also performed their collaboration, “Youth,” which was written for victims of the Parkland school shooting in February.

Shape of You hitmaker, Ed Sheeran, was the biggest winner of the night, taking home Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Radio Songs Artists.

Delicate singer, Taylor Swift, claimed Top Female Artist, while DJ Khaled won Top New Artist.

Top R&B Artist, Bruno Mars, also made a surprise performance by introducing Janet Jackson who was this year’s recipient of the Billboard Icon Award.

Congrats to all the chart-toppers!
