The Black-ish franchise is still going strong with a fourth installment in the works.
ABC is currently developing a spinoff of the comedy titled Old-ish that will focus on Dre Johnson’s (Anthony Anderson) parents Earl “Pops” Johnson (Laurence Fishburne) and Ruby Johnson (Jenifer Lewis).
Black-ish’s creator Kenya Barris will write and produce the project which will center around Ruby and Earl as they try to make their relationship work after moving to a gentrified neighborhood of Los Angeles while meeting characters who represent the old and new faces of the community.
In addition to Black-ish, ABC also airs Mixed-ish, which tells Rainbow Johnson’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) childhood story, and Freeform airs the spinoff series Grown-ish, which centers around Zoey (Yara Shahidi) as she navigates college life.
Old-ish will be a return to ABC for Barris who left his overall deal with the network in 2018 after getting a deal with Netflix. While with Netflix, he’s created the single-cam comedy series #BlackAF which was picked up for a second season.
