It’s been almost five years since Blackpink dropped their hit song “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and they’re still breaking records with this track. This song just reached two billion views on YouTube, transforming Blackpink into the first K-pop group to reach this milestone.

Blackpink released “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” in 2018, and it was one of the songs that led to their rise to global stardom. It was featured on the group’s first Korean-language extended play Square Up, together with songs “Forever Young”, “Really”, “See U Later”, and hidden track “As If It’s Your Last”.

“Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” crossed a two billion mark on January 4, becoming the highest-charting song by a K-pop band to reach this milestone. Psy still remains the highest-ranking overall K-pop act with 4.6 billion views with his viral hit “Gangnam Style”, which went down in history as the first song to reach a billion views on YouTube.

Following its release, “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” debuted at No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Blackpink the highest-charting Korean girl group in the US at the time. They found even bigger success in the years to come, getting their first No. 1 album in the US with Born Pink and scoring their highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 with the Selena Gomez collaboration “Ice Cream” at No. 13.
