Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us is one of those books everyone’s been obsessing about in the past few years and it’s finally getting its movie adaptation. Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni will play the lead roles in the big-screen version of the best-selling novel.

It Ends with Us was published in 2016 and it draws inspiration from the relationship between Hoover’s parents. It follows a young woman named Lily, as she tries to start her life after college and develops a relationship with a gorgeous neurosurgeon Ryle, despite still being haunted by her first love Atlas, who suddenly reappears in her life.

It Ends with Us debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times best sellers list and inspired the equally successful sequel It Starts with Us, which came out in 2022. Hoover will be involved in the book’s adaptation as an executive producer, alongside Lively and Baldoni.

This project has been in development since 2019 when Jane the Virgin star Baldoni secured the rights for the novel through his Wayfarer Entertainment company. In addition to playing one of the lead roles alongside Lively, Baldoni will also direct the project, after stepping behind the camera with such films as Clouds and Five Feet Apart.
