A Documentary about Metal Legend Ronnie James Dio In the Works

Ronnie James Dio is considered one of the most influential singers in metal history. Now, Variety reports that BMG is making a feature-length documentary spanning the legendary singer’s 40-year-long career. BMG will both provide the funding for the film and executive produce it.

The movie will include rare photos from the singer’s personal archives. It will deal with his interactions with peers, friends, and family and deal with his family and professional life and his charity work like Dio-helmed Hear ‘n Aid – the metal version of Band-Aid and the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

Don Argott and Demian Fenton will helm the project. It will be produced by Argott and Sheena Joyce for 9.14 Pictures and will be executive produced by Wendy Dio for Niji Productions and Kathy Rivkin Daum for BMG.

“I am very excited to be working with BMG on Ronnie’s long-awaited documentary,” said Wendi Dio. “Ronnie loved his fans and I hope they will enjoy this trip through Ronnie’s life.”

Dio’s career spanned from the 1950s to the 2000s. he played with bands like Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell. He died from cancer in 2010.
